Red Wine Cake

Sometimes it feels akward to share family recipes – they are  so precious that I feel I need to keep them top secret 🙂 … this is what I also had in mind when baking lately my mother’s Red Wine Cake. But since I am blogging about what I am cooking, baking and, yes, also eating… I felt like this is a good recipe to share. Of course I checked with my mom and she was happy to share her recipe. So here they are: The steps to bake a delicious Red Wine Cake!

Ingredients:

  • 125 ml Red Wine
  • 4 Eggs
  • 200g Sugar
  • 200g Butter
  • 250g Flour
  • 1 sachet of Baking Powder
  • 1 tea spoon Cinnamon
  • 100g grated Chocolate
  • 1 tbl spoon Cacao

Beat egg white with 100g sugar until stiff and set aside. Whisk the egg yolk together with the remaining sugar and butter. Mix the flour with the baking powder and sieve it to the eggyolk mixture, then whisk, pour in the red wine and fold in carefully the egg white in three parts. Finally add the cinnamon, chocolate and cacao. It needs about 40-45 min at 160°C in the oven.

Tip:

If you are in a hurry, you won’t need to seperate egg white and egg yolk – I didn’t do it for the cake in the pictures and it turned out a little bit more compact, but great nevertheless. I also used powder sugar and gold dust as a decoration.

This cake is good to do if asked last minute to bring a cake to an event or party – because it requires only a few ingredients that you for sure have at home and the cake is never a fail!
