If you are looking for a cool, but local food place in Bogota to have breakfast, lunch or dinner or if you would like to have some cocktails with live music at night, you are in good hands at Gaira.
We went for a late lunch and had Empanaditas and Carimañolas as a starter: Delicious and nicely presented. (I’m an Empanada Lover and I really liked the Colombian version of Empanadas: Fried. The ones from the Bogota region with meat and potato filling are my favourite!)
The Steak not only looks good, but tasted exactly the same and the side dishes that we choose, ripe plantains cooked with Panela and Cinnamon and Fried Coconut Rice, is nothing that would accompany a steak anywhere in Europe, but it was unbelievable well with the meat!
Then we also had a plantane lasgna, which replaced pasta with plantains and was stuffed with minced meat. It is one of Gaira’s signature dishes. Altough the combination is nothing that I am familiar with, I was surprised how delicious it can be! Yummy!
And as we were identified as tourists (who would not think that you are if you are crazily taking pictures of every meal and drink that you get) we had a surprise dessert-muffin and got “welcome-scarfs”. This was such a nice gesture!
